How to upload a Minecraft skin

You've made a skin in the browser editor and exported a PNG. Here's how to actually apply that file in the game.

1. Export the file first

In the editor, click Export PNG. You'll get a 64×64 PNG named skin-classic-…png or skin-slim-…png. Save it somewhere you'll find again — your downloads folder is fine.

2. Java Edition (PC / Mac)

Java Edition manages your skin through your Minecraft account, not through the launcher.

  1. Open minecraft.net in a browser and sign in with your account.
  2. Open the profile area for your account and look for the Skins section.
  3. Choose the option to upload a custom skin. Browse to the PNG you exported.
  4. Pick the model shape — Classic if your skin uses 4-pixel arms, Slim if it uses 3-pixel arms.
  5. Save. The next time you launch the game and connect, your character uses the new skin.

If your skin doesn't show up, try fully closing and reopening the game. Some changes also need a moment to propagate.

3. Bedrock and mobile platforms that support custom skins

On supported Bedrock devices (Windows, Android, iOS, and some others), custom skins are applied inside the game itself.

  1. Launch Minecraft and open the Dressing Room (or the character editor screen, depending on version).
  2. Choose to create or edit a character, then look for an option to use a custom skin from a file.
  3. Browse to the PNG you exported.
  4. Pick the model shape — classic or slim — to match how you drew the skin.
  5. Apply and save. The next time you load a world, your character uses the new skin.

Exact menu labels vary across versions and platforms. The pattern is the same: somewhere inside the character / skin screen, there's an option to load a PNG you provide.

4. Consoles

Console editions are more restricted. On most consoles, custom user-supplied skin PNGs are not directly importable through the system; instead, you typically use store skins or skin packs that the platform allows. If your console version supports custom skins, the import flow will be inside the character / dressing room screen, similar to the Bedrock steps above. Otherwise, the simplest option is to make and apply the skin on a PC or supported mobile device that shares your account.

5. Choosing the right model shape

When the game asks whether your skin is classic or slim, match it to how you drew it:

Picking the wrong shape doesn't damage the file; it just means the arm region won't line up properly in-game. You can switch any time.
